Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
A senior representative stated the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
